An article in the NY Times about medical students clinical experiences is titled:
Your Intern Today Is Both Sleepy and Bored. Feel Better? How hard is this? Medical students are students. Interns are MDs (i.e. former medical students) in their first year of training. Several people I knew as an undergrad went on to be NYTimes reporters and presumably most of their reporters/editors go to schools that crank out lots of future doctors so couldn't they get the medical lingo down?
